In the summer of 2011, Dr. Yolande Lucire, a forensic psychiatrist, and Christopher Crotty, PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, both published a study that focuses on the relationship between genome anomalies, psychiatric drugs and severe akathisia, enabling a person with no prior history to commit heinous acts of unmitigated violence. They call this condition:
The Vari4nt is an edgy documentary series that explores the connection between psychiatric drugs, a genetic liver variant present in some humans, and the heinous acts of unmitigated violence they commit, without realizing what monsters they have become.
Each episode begins with an interviews from specific members of the scientific community. Together they will pull reports, excruciating details and factual assertions from their own published case studies. As interviews become narrated re-creations, the audience has no illusions- this is real. This really happened. Lines between documentary and action horror will certainly be blurred, but our audiences will be riveted, terrified, or just angry.
Hard questions will certainly be asked. Challenging ourselves to answer them sincerely and with empathy might be what America needs to prevent the next mass shooting in her own backyard.
Each interview will be shot using an Interrotron, a unique 2-camera system designed by filmmaker Errol Morris, a former private investigator who uses his invention to connect his audience straight into the eyes of the person being interviewed.
All ten episodes end with an re-creation of a violent event, faithful to each detail as described by actual test subjects, doctors and scientists in a peer reviewed article published by Dove Press. Each re-creation will be extremely dramatic, and at times terrifying- in the hopes of educating and inspiring Americans of all walks of life to become the conscious, critical thinkers we so desperately need.
SHORT TERM GOALS
Create digital content required for a targeted digital marketing campaign.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
1) To educate the 73 million adults and approximately 6 million teens in America about the psychiatric drugs they are taking.
2) To discuss whether or not there is any correlation between psychiatric drugs and mass shootings, and if so, discuss whether or not psychiatric drugs should be part of the gun debate.
3) To keep an open mind, and an open door to representatives from all sides of each debate.
4) To deliver 10 episodes that inform like a mind-blowing documentary, but engages with a powerful narrative.
